The Trump administration waited too long to treat covid-19 as a crisis. So did everyone. If Trump had called for a two-week lockdown in late January rather than the travel ban (which Dems opposed), he would have been called a dictator by the same Dems now calling him derelict.
There are specific failures that must be examined: the years-long unwillingness of the federal government, spanning the Bush, Obama and Trump years, to build up ventilator capacity; the CDC's failures on testing; the FDA's thicket of regulations.
@benshapiro This is where you should be really listening to @marklevinshow he has been addressing this for weeks now. Each state, not the federal government, is responsible for how many nurses they can have, how many ventilators to purchase, etc. This is a state government failure
@benshapiro Does being a little bitch protect you from viruses
@benshapiro Classic straw man from Ben. He could have ramped up testing, and it wouldn't have required a national lockdown in January, maybe just two cities. Besides, leadership sometimes requires doing the unpopular thing. If Trump is incapable of that, all the more reason to remove him.
@benshapiro This is intellectually dishonest & misdirection. Trump is being criticized mainly for dismantling the pandemic response team in 2018, publicly stating that COVID-19 was not a problem for over a month, & then signaling publicly that social distancing should end at Easter.
@benshapiro To be this intellectually bankrupt takes some real effort. You’ve had your indoor exercise for the day.
@benshapiro When you say, so did everyone What you mean by this?
@benshapiro Very cheap both-sides-ism. Response among Ds (and Rs!) has been mixed, given these are very wide groups. Trump's (ie. President of the United States) response has been patently lacking. Even if your counter-history is correct, it doesn't absolve potus' blithe & lacking response.
@benshapiro No, he would’ve saved lives, and been praised not just because governors & people who work for him know he is vindictive. He was warned washingtonpost.com/national-secur… repeatedly washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
@benshapiro even for you this is an absurd falsehood. "so did everyone" my pasty white ass
@benshapiro Imagine thinking that a 2 week lockdown in January was the optimal response
@benshapiro getting rid of the entire pandemic team, only giving Alex Azar 25% what he requested to prepare for the virus in Feb, shipping tons of PPE to China two weeks after we had our first confirmed case in the U.S., calling it a hoax, & saying it was under control all weren’t great, Ben
@benshapiro From Joe Biden, on Jan 27th. apple.news/AI_-tQUN0SxKYW…
@benshapiro Yeah he sucks dude why is that so hard to comprehend.
@benshapiro Had Trump not called it a hoax & blamed Dems for exaggerating it, it wouldn’t have been perceived as political & ignored. People went to Mardi Gras, on cruises, spring Break. He turned his back on it, an inconvenient problem. Blamed Dems. That’s what he does. It’s all on him.
@benshapiro I really hate to break it to you, Ben, but...
@benshapiro Revisionist history is the easiest game to play from the sidelines.
@benshapiro the first death in the usa was jan 29, who and china were saying there was no human to human transmission on jan 14. as dr fauci said, there was nothing here to mitigate in january.
@benshapiro Yeah. And he didn’t have the political clout because the Dems were trying to impeach him at the time.
@benshapiro "So did everyone" There is only one group that had the power and responsibility to treat COVID-19 as a crisis early on and that was the Trump administration. It was not the media or even the Democrats job to make them take it seriously. That was their job.
@benshapiro That's fine and dandy but it doesn't excuse weeks of him going on fox news saying it's not a big deal, it's the flu, it'll be down to 0 cases soon, nothing to worry about.
@benshapiro More blame must be put on China and the WHO. The WHO took forever to declare a Pandemic, and then had the audacity to ask why countries weren't taking any preventative measures. #ChinaLiedPeopleDie #WHOkilledTheWorld
@benshapiro @guyzer I’m gonna keep posting my tweet from weeks ago...
@benshapiro Did you even listen to the briefing yesterday or over the past month. Fauci & Birx have been guiding Trump- ya know the experts. The data is,only good if the information input is good. Birx & the scientists believed this was a kin to SARS. CHINA lied. THE WHO lied.
@benshapiro Or maybe he shouldn't have fired the pandemic response team that would have made exactly that nonpartisan, science-backed recommendation.
@benshapiro In all fairness the Chinese Communist Government did NOT admit the Corona Virus, which may’ve escaped one of their Virology labs, was transmittable from human to human until January 20th. WHO was green lighting travel to & from Wuhan China 🇨🇳 January 10th.

@benshapiro no. China delayed and lied. Covid19(wuhan viris) is novel. that means new. we needed more time and honest data. Trump acted fastest given the uncertainty.
@benshapiro The only certainty is that whatever President Trump decided to do, Democrats would say that he has blood on his hands.
@benshapiro It goes without saying the Dems and U.S. media would have savaged Trump unmercifully if he’d called for a lockdown in late January.
@benshapiro I’m calling bullshit on this Ben. All scientists advised the president this was a SARS like virus coming out of China. And he shut the border. He’s doing a great job.
@benshapiro Ben you’re trying to hard bend over backwards to protect ya boy.
