reading the Epic of Gilgamesh again has made me realize that Enkidu is the proto Sigma-male. He lived quite literally outside of society, so in tune with nature he could speak to animals. He was wild and untamed and thus a danger to Sumerian society.

The Epic of Gilgamesh? more like the 'Tragedy of Enkidu'. Enkidu in the wild: Strong, capable, speaks to beasts Enkidu after sex: Weak, animals flee from him, falls in love, stays in the city, nature rejects him, meets Gilgamesh and dies fighting gods.
