I believe one of the reasons that hiring is broken in tech, is because we don't have an idea of what skill development really looks like. We actually don't know how to grow an engineer. Over time with AI replacing lower level jobs this will become a MAJOR issue.

These people are usually standouts or lucky, I would tell people not to do it this way. Also a lot of these studies don’t factor in how much college these “degree” less people have i dropped out to join a startup. Thats way different than a “degree-less” person with no skills

I ran across an old post of us talking about how diabolical our physical teacher was. A pendulum has a period of 7/3 seconds and you need to find the length of the pendulum in meters. However, you cannot use any fractions in your calculations only decimals.

What about a firewall change. So they can be more finicky. So we want to have the agent make the change, then we want some validation. So one LLM does the work, and the next evaluates it.

Agents don't magically work. You have to give them the right tools to do the job. They should know about your CLI, the API they can hit. Where to find other data at. Giving them a blind prompt sets them up for failure.

A lot of people ask me how to get started in AI. Thats a pretty broad question. My advice would be to take what you already do, and figure something small you can ask chatGPT to do for and build on that.
