How important are aesthetics to you? To me if my code doesn’t “feel” good if - The connections are messy spaghetti - I’m injecting too many dependencies - my interfaces are too big - etc It needs to *feel* elegant Do other people feel this way about code too?

Told as a joke it’s funny But this is also reality for many devs, their code base is such a spaghetti mess that estimating tasks has become impossible You have to pay that debt off. Management isn’t going to give you time to do it since it’s not money making What do you do?

Great point. It’s easy to become blind to the difficulty of your game. Not only can it cause you to add complexity where none is needed but you might not realise that you need tutorials for some features Seeing a real player play your game for the fire time is always humbling

The best frameworks, apis and tools are the ones that are easy to understand and to use. This is true for all code 99% of the time. The remaining 1% is the really advanced stuff like Carmack inventing BSP or really efficient sorting algos.

My uni teacher told me that everybody should build a roguelike as a “rite of passage”. I’ve started so many roguelike projects but they always morph into something else or I abandon them 😔

Flash was an amazing technology for its time - low file size due to vector graphics - rich interactions due to actionscript - kickstarted indie games by accident All in the early 2000s when websites looked like this
