Couldn't agree more with Linus here. Making your code running as fast as possible (or just faster than someone's else code) is the best feeling you can get from programming The issue that it is extremely hard to find the project that will pay you for instruction level efficiency

No one that gets on a plane today is trusting experts. They are trusting past performance data. If eg 50% of planes crashed, almost none of the people flying today would take the next flight even if experts said it was going to be perfect. They would wait for the data.

When you customize a map (like making it light when your phone's in dark mode), it can mess up the colors of things on the map that use the phone's default settings. So, we should probably let people change those colors, too, but still have some good default options to start with

Eventually, hardware manufacturers will be forced to lock down bootloaders, so you can't install an unrestricted version of Android or a Linux distro. Those aren't private corp initiatives. It's states doing state things, and they will get their way

Just noticed that the APK is ridiculously big (70 MB!). Pretty sure it's all the MapLibre native code for different CPUs. I'll see what I can do to optimize it, maybe drop support for rarer hardware or provide a separate "full" build

Zigbee is way better than Wi-Fi for a smart home. Stuff can run on batteries for years, and you don't need a bunch of different apps just to do firmware updates 🫠
