Hurricanes haven’t been good defensively so far this year. It’s easy to detect on the ice, as opponents are getting higher danger chances all around Frederik Andersen. The departure of Dougie definitely plays a part on this. Deangelo especially has looked particularly weak on D.

If the canes end up retaining Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Vincent trocheck’s days as a cane are likely numbered. He’s a FA after this season, and the canes would probably want to give Kotkaniemi a shot on the second line in 2022-2023.

Andrei Svechnikov inks an 8yr/7.75M AAV contract with the canes! This contract has the potential to be one of the best in the nhl. Svech has the potential to be a top 5 winger in the NHL, and at a cap hit of 7.75 for the next 8 years, that’s an absolute steal of a contract!

Just saw something really crazy. Alex Nedeljkovic is still eligible to win the Calder next year. He only played 23 regular season games last year, and didn’t play more than 6 in the 2 previous seasons. Likely that the nhl changes the rules before the season, though.

Any predictions for a Svech contract? I think it’ll be 3 years/7.25M AAV. A bridge deal makes the most sense for both the canes and Svech. Svech hasn’t peaked yet, and the canes need to get a better idea of what he can top out as before giving him 8M+ In my opinion.

If the canes don’t make a trade for a forward, which Canes prospect do you want to see opening night? I’d really love to see Jack Drury or Ryan Suzuki playing on the third line. I think it’s time to give them a chance. Time will tell!
