The high road, 16x12inch, oil. This old farm track is near Tafarn Bwlch, in the Preseli mountains here in west Wales. Painted mainly using a palette knife, there's a lot of paint on this one. #Pembrokeshire

This scene is at 'the wick', on Skomer island, where there are so many puffins flying around it's hard to know where to look. I'd taken my Mother to Skomer this day, and this particularly curious little puffin happily sat on her backpack for 5 minutes. #oilpainting

Distressed look. The 'Comma' is a mid sized orange and brown butterfly that has evolved distinctive ragged wing edges with brown undersides to resemble dead leaves, as camouflage. It's named for its comma shaped marking on the underside of its hindwings #Butterflies

Goldy Locks. Goldcrests are tiny birds, just 6.5 grams in weight when adult; that's 20-30% smaller than a Chiffchaff, and less than a 2p coin. Yet still these tiny birds manage to fly to the UK from Russia each year. #birds

Originally from China, UK Mandarin ducks escaped from captivity in 1930s. They're one of the few introduced species in Britain that has not created any environmental problems, mainly because it uses a habitat not favoured by our native wildfowl. #birds

Foxes are wild animals, but their relationship with humans in ancient. In 2011, researchers opened a 16,500 year old grave in Jordan, to find the remains of a man and his pet fox. This was 4000 years before the first known human and domestic dog burial. #nature #fox
