to keep up w/ audible, spotify is now selling audiobooks. do NOT buy from either of these brands. there's an app called Libby which is 100% FREE that has thousands of old & brand new audiobooks and all you need is your library card number!

Watching my 86-yr-old grandpa carry buckets of fuel to fill up the generator. Running to buy batteries for my dad’s fan bc it’s close to 90 degrees today. And relatives throwing out their groceries that have gone bad. This is life in PR now. And we’re some of the lucky ones.

All of Puerto Rico lost power last Sunday. Today is Friday and more than 920k people are still without power. People have died because of generators exploding or their house catching fire due to candles. Some supermarkets will have to shut down bc they’re running out of fuel.

Two weeks ago I got a frantic call from a 58-year-old woman in Atlanta. She and her husband, who had just been discharged from the hospital, were being forced out of the apartment where they’d lived since 2011. The couple had nowhere to go and were terrified of becoming homeless.

🧵 I want to share more about what I witnessed at Rikers Island yesterday. We broke into groups to inspect different parts of the sprawling facility. I spent several hours at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center.
