So, .. chronic illness patient here and also have an MD degree, In 3 decades of illness, at least 80% of medical appts I've had were completely useless, and in about half of those the providers were dumb, (willfully) ignorant, and couldn't even grasp what I was telling them.

Unfortunately, rare diseases can be very hard to diagnose, and even harder to diagnose if the patient does not have the typical symptoms. Sometimes the patient has to lead the way by reading scientific literature, creating PowerPoint presentations for their doctors, etc.
