Finally began working on unifying all network device CLI:s behind one API. At least I hope I'll be able to use it some day...

What a trip the last three weeks have been. Big outages every day, huge backlog, people home sick, etc. And I got promoted to team leader.
The network management servers I use don't have expect nor python installed, and the sysadmins won't let us add them. So, we circumvent.
I learned yesterday that apparently a Cisco switch running STP cannot be trusted to connect to an HP switch not running STP. Wtf.
I wrote a script to tunnel telnet through SSH, from workstation, past network management server, to network. github.com/cambrant/tunne…
Tomorrow will show, as we embark on a fantastic journey to the center of a cave somewhere, where a Cisco ME3400 has been left forgotten.
Could a link with "working L1" (Up/Up), semi-working L2 (a percentage of MAC-addresses getting through) and non-working L3 be a faulty SFP?
...The old team did a great job with the resources they had, but it's obvious more money and manpower is needed to run the service.
I'm real excited that @TheOldReader seems to have been acquired. It's an excellent service and RSS is such an excellent technology.

My home printer issues are sorted. Apparently, the best way to do simple printer sharing to windows boxes is to share from a WinXp VM… :S
I hate printers with all my might. I'm going to kick a printer's ass one day.
Trying to run Windows Server 2k3 as a print server since cups is failing me. It won't even print on its own, let alone share the printer. :(
Found an extremely old ISDN router on our network, which apparently still does something. Have to find out what to be able to remove it.
The best feeling ever is finding a device on one's network which turns out not to be needed anymore.
Spent the day reinstalling Linux Mint on my work laptop with full disk encryption. Now have to enter four separate passwords at boot. :S
Back at work, after a 6 month parental leave. I haven’t been this rusty in many years!
