Musing on the future of AI and how it’ll enable us writers to do so much more than what we do now. It’s almost mind-blowing in the vastness of its possibilities. Probably won’t get there in my lifetime, but it might be amazing just to get a few steps on the path.

Learning how to fine-tune a local LLM using my stories to create the dataset. It’s forced me to “world build” to an extreme I’ve never done before. It’s quite a revelation.

Had a chat with AI today about one line of dialogue, and now I have several pages of world-building about an aspect of the story I’d put little thought into. It’ll probably never get used, but it offers a lot of depth to something minor.

So many posts from writers saying that you can’t be a “real writer” if you use AI. I wonder if, in 1755, people said “you can’t be a real writer if you use that ‘dictionary’ thing”. These things are just tools. It’s *how* we use them that’s important, not whether we use them.

Caught the news doing a weather forecast for the weekend. Seemed a bit bizarre … until I suddenly realised it is the weekend. The concept of “weekend” seems so old-fashioned. Makes me wonder how many industries, and how many thousands of people never see a “weekend” any more.

I think I’m starting to go off iOS. Every day it seems that a dozen or more apps want updating on my phone, and again on my iPad. I thought Windows was mad for updates, but that’s nothing to iOS apps these days. What is it with the endless daily updates?

Twitter seems to be full of people asking irrelevant questions or posting lists, but none of them do so for the purposes of discussion and conversation. Twitter has become little more than clickbait posts for impressions, likes, and responses that’ll get no replies. 😔

I’m glad of the last 7 months that allowed me to learn how to code iOS apps, but now my coding journey is going to be relegated to hobbyist status. Needs to be done. Bills need to be paid. And coding isn’t going to get me there any time soon.
