Enjoyment happens only in the present, not in the projection of the future or reminisce of the past. "Everything outside of the present moment is not direct experience, but an experience of the experience, which can spiral into overthinking, overwhelm and over-analysis" - @thedankoe Trying to predict too far into the future and focusing on the details creates more problems. Similiarly, trying to answer "what if?" to your actions in the past leads to wastage of your mental focus on things you can't change now. Yes, It's important to review our actions in the past and learn from them. But that needs to be done for a specific time regularly with the right intention. Living in the moment is the only way to directly experience life and find happiness in it. But it is easier said than done. It is very hard to not be bothered about your future especially when you are young. And living our life towards the momentary goals is also dangerous. Instant gratification is almost always bad for you. So, How do you go around this? By building SYSTEMS. A system will tell you what needs to be in this moment so you are moving the lever towards your goal 10 years into the future. It can be as simple as writing your goal for a decade and breaking it down backwards to the current week. "Live in the moment but plan in decades" - Zach Pogrob I rarely overthink and it's very easy not to when you have a machine that tells you what needs to be done every day, hour, week and month. Yes, The system maybe wrong. And that's why I review it every 3-4 months. Is it too ambitious? Is it too easy? Is it not for me? I am glad to know. All I need to do is make the necessary changes in the review. Only experiencing something directly gives you the permission to judge it. You can't just believe the society, parents, or your friends and judge things to be bad for you. TL;DR 1. Living in the present is the only way to enjoy life 2. But it can go out of control if you don't have goals 3. Building systems will spare you the overthinking and allows you to enjoy the moment by acquiring direct experience 4. You will review your systems every quarter to make changes accordingly
