Let's say you're looking for a job, and the offer mentions PHP 7+ and Laravel 6+... Is this company right for you?
@codewithdary If the pay is right, yea why not? I like challenges. I'd work on bringing stuff up to date
@codewithdary I recently worked with a company that uses Laravel 5.5, PHP 7.4 and VueJS. They have been developing a web app for the last 8 years. I had never seen such a complicated infrastructure in my life, but i figured out and it was okay. They paid me well and everyone was happy. Why not
@codewithdary I have upgraded various projects from Laravel 4/5 to 10/11 with the help of @laravelshift. So, why not?
@codewithdary Two words. Laravel. Shift. @gonedark I took my organizations Laravel from 5-10 (latest at the time) and now I’m bringing it to L11 with PHP 8.3
@codewithdary You lost me at stored procedures. Whoever thought logic should live in a database was drunk
@codewithdary The only problem that I see is react, angular and node.
@codewithdary Why not? Probably you are coming to upgrade the codebase as well
@codewithdary First thing i'll ask about the pay if it's good and then check the product , what are their goals. If they are planning to upgrade and maybe put sexy things on the way. Otherwise i'm good thanks
@codewithdary If they pay a good salary I can program in PHP 5.
@codewithdary probably copy-paste from previous job post or from someone else
@codewithdary Yes but I doubt the salary is good enough for the skills they ask for such a position.
@codewithdary It’s looking good because I enjoying working with php 7 and Jquery Ajax 😂😂.
@codewithdary Is that PHP 7 or higher and Laravel 6 or higher?
@codewithdary MySQL 5 red flag. Laravel 6 red flag. Php7 red flag (although I'm now at a company still dealing with it). Still talking about MVC is a red flag... But for me, it doesn't show anything about 'we are looking for a senior'. 'We want to learn from you', or 'help us build a team'...
@codewithdary I joined a company that was using php 7.4 and laravel 5.4 as a junior. I nagged and pushed for an upgrade. 4 months into the job i got the project with a senior to upgrade the whole codebase to laravel 10. We did it in 1 month and 1 week. It was the most fun i had on a project
@codewithdary Yes. I have been working with Laravel 4 and maintaining and Laravel 5 app for years
@codewithdary At least it doesn’t require php 6 experience
@codewithdary They don't mention htmx or livewire or inertia so I have to give the company a pass ...
@codewithdary I started with PHP3, millions of lines in PHP5, jQuery... We did migration projects from PHP4.3, ... It's okay. But migrating old Laravel to new is a bit longer project 🤨
@codewithdary Forget the stale PHP/Laracel. They are using stored procedures and triggers. Triggers! Just because you can doesn't mean you should. (Not saying there aren't valid uses, but they are few)
