stop glamorizing getting into tech !!! “you can learn coding by yourself in x months & earn 6 figures” this shit is HARD 😭 ppl don’t talk about how hard it is to stay consistent & motivated 💀 it’s definitely doable, but requires a lot of hard work 😤
@codingyuri This is something I talk about a lot and it pisses some people off. Everyone made it sound so easy and when I was struggling to learn I said "Maybe I should give up because others are code whisperers where they can type and make a startup!" Glad I stuck with it but it was rough.
@codingyuri @Minimalish_YT Definitely hard. Definitely doable (heck I did it). Definitely worth the hard work.
@codingyuri Learn to code is not that hard But to be able to use this knowledge in a good way for an application with lot of traffic requires plenty of experience, have made a lot of mistakes, faced real problems, understand what happens under the hood! 💩 HARD but possible 💪
@codingyuri Coding is a curse that I live with, it's like an itchy worm in your brain that needs constant itching. At 46 still do it 12 hrs a day. But it's not for everyone, you truly have to love it
@codingyuri That’s true for anything in life not only getting into tech.
@codingyuri Preach 👏🏻 It took me a year of waking up at 5am learning web development while raising a newborn son for a year before I got into a tech job. It’s doable, but you need the drive.
@codingyuri Facts that people should learn to accept.. Tech isn’t for everybody , everybody can learn tech but it’s never easy to stay disciplined and committed to it .. Many people fold most times when going deeper to tech .. you need patience to earn from it and many people don’t have it
@codingyuri What people also don’t say is that the later in life you get in to it. The harder it gets. Your brain just doesn’t have the same capacity your younger brain did. More responsibilities and more worries which all distance away from purely learning. Again possible but it’s hard.
@codingyuri Unpopular opinion: it's just a job. Like any other. If you manage to be passionate about it, and you like doing it, even better. But it's just a job folks, remember that.
@codingyuri I had friends who got in but still couldn't continue. They quit their jobs to do something else. Even if the money is good, tech is hard and not for everyone.
@codingyuri As someone who started as a professional developer in 1981, I concur. After these last few years when some health issues and challenges with my children's mental health kept me from working, I find it's hard to be motivated to get up to speed on new tech and look for work.
@codingyuri Finally someone is saying this😩😩 They make it seem so easy that people jump into the field with no defense and they can't withstand the pressure, from anxiety to imposter syndrome to near success syndrome, the list is freaking endless 🤦 We just sugarcoat it sadly🥺
@codingyuri Often times, I tell newbies that programming is like the sun, it looks very attractive when you look at it from afar, but it hurts as hell when you start coming closer to it.😂
@codingyuri The hardest part for me was getting my first gig. The coding and learning and such wasn’t difficult at all. Much like learning anything it just takes repetition. I didn’t struggle with motivation because it was something I already loved. Ofcourse everyone has their thing
@codingyuri So true .. but people just want traction on their posts and "how to make money" content always gets that no matter how ill-informed the post is
@codingyuri I don't know. Maybe people don't talk enough about how hard it is, but it seems to me the problem is more the opposite - many more people are saying "you CAN'T learn to code" (especially to women and underprivileged groups) than there are people saying "you can do this".
@codingyuri The problem is that it’s being presented as something easy to learn like if you want to learn a new coding language and type in one YouTube a video will come up saying “Learn Python or JavaScript in 3 hours” but you will never be able to learn it in 3 hours
@codingyuri Videos like "Learn x in 3 hours" make me laugh. Going through a documentation is different from understanding it with proper usage.
@codingyuri Before joining the tech industry, one must know whether it will be a good career option. medium.com/@imraj4u/is-so…
@codingyuri Feel like the 6 figures thing is a US thing also
@codingyuri Thank you for saying this out loud. I started in my mid 50s and took the self-taught route. It took forever and I’m proud of what I achieved. Yet, I knew there was something missing. I found a wonderful mentor friend @jonnyrankin who really helped me to ‘turn the lights on’🌞💃✌🏽
@codingyuri It’s hard, but isn’t nearly impossible like becoming a successful actor, singer, or celebrity chef - all positions much more glamorized than coding. And it isn’t as difficult as other paths such as entrepreneur, lawyer, or medical doctor - paths that take even more dedication.
@codingyuri Also sometimes someone has to take a sacrifice. Not all roads are paved straight 🙌🏼. Sometimes there are curves
@codingyuri It is hard but at the same time it is a bit unique too. I suppose it is one of the few jobs where the more experience and knowledge you gain, the more you start feeling you know nothing and you are just faking everything. 5 years back I knew 10% of what I know today. But...
@codingyuri After 25 years in the field I still get pretty anxious and uncertain about everything I know or don't know before every interview... Goes without saying that it's not just about learning stuff, it's mainly about keeping up with the ever-evolving tech!
@codingyuri It’s the #Motivation for me. How to stay #consistent while surviving level 173 of Life (on Advanced player setting). Self-taught Devs should ABSOLUTELY be at the TOP of a #TechRecruiter list; based on their demonstrated autonomy, grit, and focused #Tenacity. 💪 UnGlamorED
@codingyuri That's what people fail to come in terms with It's definitely hard but the most important is to be persevere and be consistent...
@codingyuri Even if you get a job after 6 months of learning a language, it doesn't end there. There is this saying that it takes 10 years to become an expert. I agree with this.
@codingyuri In my experience, people that try to make tech seem "easy" are: A) Trying to sell you something B) Trying to get more work out of you
@codingyuri But isn't life hard in general? Expecting lasting results from minimal effort is insane.
@codingyuri There are programmers who spend years teaching and improving their skills and there are spaghetti coders who copy paste functions to slap something together without understanding the underlying fundamentals
@codingyuri I don’t think there’s anything wrong with glamourising getting into tech? Perhaps people shouldn’t make out like it’s easier than it is though. I did 0 STEM subjects at school/uni. I taught myself to code in about ~6 months and got a job as an engineer
@codingyuri Yes. It's not easy as learn js in 30 days. I don't think the people saying such things even know how to code.
@codingyuri As hard as this shit is, people don't talk about the health part of it too. The risk to your eyes, back, hand, and brain. Well, whatever you do, especially if you just want to get into tech, take note of these things and watch out for any symptoms. Most importantly, rest!!!
@codingyuri Even if you can code and already build dozens of apps, there is not any guarantee that you can earn 6 figures, especially in a 3rd world country.
