I hope the Greens and Socialists vote with renters and first home buyers rather than property investors by voting down @MerribekCouncil's biased officer report into higher rates for property investors at tomorrow night's @MerribekCouncil meeting 🧵
@JamesMConlan @MerribekCouncil How is it "highly unlikely to be lawful" when even Brisbane City Council already has this system?
@jonathan_sri @JamesMConlan @MerribekCouncil ...for a differential rate is consistent with those rule) - but Council officers insisted that they needed to get legal advice and do a report as a first step. All signs point to this being a set-em-up, knock-em-down intervention by senior council management
@jonathan_sri @JamesMConlan @MerribekCouncil One of the ironies here is that 10 yrs ago the Qld Labor government actually intervened to *protect* Qld councils' ability to charge different rates on landlords. Here, we can't even get our ostensibly to-the-left-of-Labor council to simply write a letter asking for clarity
@jonathan_sri @JamesMConlan @MerribekCouncil anyway I marked up the report and made some comments - short term setback, but this isn't going away 🔥 docs.google.com/document/d/1aL…
