Dr Joel Sercel is an entrepreneur, an aerospace engineer and an inventor. With a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech, he spent 14 years at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory contributing to projects like the NSTAR ion propulsion system for the Dawn spacecraft. As founder and CEO of Trans Astronautica Corporation (TransAstra), he's behind groundbreaking inventions such as Optical Mining for asteroid resources, the Omnivore Thruster for in-space transportation, and Radiant Gas Dynamic Mining for lunar water extraction. A many times NASA NIAC Fellow and holder of 22 US patents, Dr. Sercel even has an asteroid named in his honor—(46308) Joel Sercel.
