imo an underdiscussed part of the problem with modern dating standards is how social media has poisoned so many people into thinking any deviation from their arbitrary social scripts shouldn't be tolerated. This is something only George Costanza would've cared about 30 years ago.

Society could easily have the best of both worlds with a standard school mode linking phones to classrooms so teachers can lock them down outside of basic features and whitelisted apps, but no brand wants to be uncool with kids by being the first, and government regulation bad.

She's obviously right that it's far from earnest but I hesitate to criticize it too much for that because I don't know what sincerity even looks like anymore on a cultural level. It feels like the only sincerity left is shameless narcissism and that's clearly not more worthwhile.

Worst song discourse is bullshit because nobody ever means worst song. You're just using the excuse to get off hot takes about songs that annoy you in a way that annoys everyone else. I can name a hundred worse songs off the top of my head and write a million that are even worse.
