Demand forecasts fail when companies don't worry enough about prediction bias. A single 'median' forecast value has a 50-50 chance of overshooting or undershooting real demand. Why take that route? Rather, build probabilistic forecasts that minimize bias and stockouts.

Every single quarter that container lines post historically high levels of profit means a bigger cushion against any reduction in demand. That also gives them more freedom to continue being stringent managers of capacity, and to hold lines on compensatory rates.

Just like going after small wins regularly, snowball into big wins. Identify supply chain value pockets, go-after narrow applications of #AI. Try something less complex, less critical & less controversial. Extract value from it and get better at doing so. Rinse & repeat!

A sustainable #SupplyChain does two jobs: Internal: Prepares for black swan disruptions to increase business longevity External: Prevents environmental disruption from spiralling out of control If the company supply chain does only one of the jobs, it does not do any of them!

Rolling pauses: 1️⃣ Cut total material & parts variable costs 2️⃣ Keep total fixed plant & union worker costs stable Hopefully, this keeps unit costs in check. Or else ➡️ Lesser # of cars, unused parts, idle plants & workers. Unit costs spiral out of control. Not an option.
