I've been open -- exhibitionist?! -- about having a rare tumor. Similarly affected patients will, increasingly, Google our diagnosis & find me. They seldom seek something unorthodox. Most often, they just want to be heard; sometimes, I barely even talk. Listening is medicine.

UK variant – ~50% more infectious & maybe more fatal too – is now surging in Denmark. In @washingtonpost article tinyurl.com/y3aq9rn2, terrific metaphor by Danish prime minister about why redoubling safe behavior is needed, even when things seem OK. That's exponential growth.

I’ve not yet seen report on whether Trump has received dexamethasone (steroids); we know he already got remdesivir (antiviral) & “cocktail” of monoclonal antibodies. But steroids, the only drugs proven to lower Covid mortality, raise a complex set of issues. An explainer. 1/9

Today was an important day for me. My first day back in the OR since my cardiac arrest on May 11th. 7 wks ago, we didn’t know if I’d survive, much less perform eye surgery ever again. 7 wks later, I can do everything I could do pre-arrest, except win an argument with my wife.

I’m not a proceduralist. I don’t know the adrenaline surge of reopening a widowmaker during a STEMI or the satisfaction of a job well done after an R0 resection. But as a medical oncologist telling the patient their cancer has vanished on scan is the best feeling. #MedTwitter
