Kadari’s Buddhist identity was not isolated. The west coast of India, especially Karnataka & Kerala, saw the spread of Vajrayana Buddhism through maritime trade with Sri Lanka, Sumatra, Java, and China. Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang (7th c.) records Buddhist centres in this region.
