Nearly every day in the ICU we have an OHIP-eligible patient with an expired healthcard. Hospitals forego revenue and MDs work for free. These patients can't go to Staples. If @ONgov wants to make HC renewal more convenient, it should also be available in hospitals.

@drmwarner @sunlorrie @ONgov The same happens in BC. It is very frustrating.
@drmwarner @ONgov seriously, I have wondered about this for years. It makes more sense to be able to do this in a hospital than to travel heaven knows where to get the cards renewed or applied for.
@drmwarner @ONgov It used to be. @UHN used to have a kiosk.
@drmwarner @ONgov Photo recognition. Costs nothing and gets the correct records and medications available immediately. First responders should have it too. It would save millions and vastly improve outcome.
it’s very obvious the goal here is to force the people least able to go to Staples to renew their cards off of OHIP of course, these patients do not have money to pay for Galen’s boutique clinics (that are not equipped to meet their complex medical needs) You are correct but Ontario chose this. Twice.
@drmwarner @ONgov As a social worker in Ontario I watched as it became harder and harder for folks to renew OHIP - started about 1999
@drmwarner @ONgov Hospitals are the logical choice to update health cards as necessary. In fact, all licensed health facilities should be able to do it including doctor’s offices, labs, etc. How about elderly & others not able to drive to Staples?
@drmwarner @ONgov I’m in Alberta. I’ve never had to renew my health care card. 🤷♀️
@drmwarner @ONgov Seriously, you save an OHIP-eligible patient's life and the province won't pay for it?!?
