As someone who joins a lot of software teams for a handful of months at a time, here are the traits of the most successful ones: - They write tons of tests and they require everything to pass in CI - Pairing is the default. - Stale code gets deleted - Debate is encouraged

I do not accept the argument from enterprise IT orgs that a skill gap is keeping them from adopting cloud or platforms. Existing teams can develop the necessary skills faster than the organization can move to adopt new tech. There is no skill gap.

Concerning that “bad product owner” is so often the excuse for bad product. I coach towards product leadership and team ownership. My worst case is product owner telling the team exactly what to build, and team not taking ownership of the outcome. That’s what “bad” looks like.

Those interested in digital government need to become interested in investing in unsexy plumbing work: clean data, open APIs, libraries & services. Great UX is not built on a handful of spreadsheets held behind firewalls in departments that don't talk.
