According to a survey in 2010, Black People confused Lupus with HIV, cancer, or witchcraft due to lack of proper education about the disease. Lupus, a complex autoimmune disease, affects individuals of all races and ethnicities, but research indicates that it disproportionately impacts certain demographic groups, highlighting significant disparities in diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. Simply, Lupus presents with more severe phenotypes in LMICs where the majority of the world’s population (and Lupus patients) live but where access to current and novel therapies remains inaccessible. Addressing these issues will need coordinated efforts from patients, carers, physicians, and the pharmaceutical industry. #MedEd
