Now this doesn’t look like much, but I wouldn’t have been able to see this by my home in the Cairngorms a year ago, before I went travelling. My first wild beaver 🦫 signs in the neighbourhood! Recently reintroduced in Strathspey. Awesome!

Maybe forcing an entire landscape into maximum productivity is a greater threat to food security than allowing some parts of that landscape to maximize provision of the ecosystem services (pollinating insects, pest eating birds, flood abatement) that underpin food production.

This may resemble a fight, but this wrestling match is actually a form of play between family members. It strengthens their social bond & prepares them for future fights. In established beaver populations, territorial fights are the biggest cause of mortality (1/3) 🎥: @ASPaton
