@n_srnck @murakamiwood I would argue it’s more liberal to assume that technology is a “set it and forget it” proposition. This is the very definition of ideology in Marx, e.g. You can’t simply embrace “algorithms” (silly term) any more than you can capitalism; complex systems have unexpected effects.

@autumnedwards @EvanSelinger As Plato (in the Phaedrus), Friedrich Kittler (in Gramophone, Film, Typewriter) and Jacques Derrida (in just about everything he wrote) have reminded us, media/technologies are always the domain of the dead.

@k_punk_unlife I reread you note after posting a couple of replies. I honestly don't get the feeling that Derrida is ever deliberately obscurantist. I can't think of an example where his long, looping textual manoeuvres haven't arrived at a very precise outline of political fields & relations
