Have you ever done a dense grid search over neural network hyperparameters? Like a *really dense* grid search? It looks like this (!!). Blueish colors correspond to hyperparameters for which training converges, redish colors to hyperparameters for which training diverges.

@kishorelive @rasbt but all of the other models have been trained for the same number of tokens (within 10%) and have effectively identical performance when training FLOP is put on the x-axis. There is no secret sauce… bigger models are better and models trained for more tokens are better
