The most interesting difference between MySQL and Postgres is the choice of parallelism model. MySQL: multi-threaded Postgres: multi-process It's quite fun to study the tradeoffs between the two, both for these specific databases and broadly in systems engineering.

I'm pretty happy seeing Vercel apply pressure to AWS Lambda's pricing by offering CPU-time only billing. We've known that Lambda functions easily have headroom to support concurrent invocations which can improve performance but also cost, so it's cool to see savings passed on:

Cloud concentration wrecked the internets primary design goal: aggregate resilience. DARPA designed it to survive a damn nuclear strike. Now it can barely survive a single hyperscaler wobbling. We've pissed DARPA's genius away. Tragic.
