One advantage I'm seeing about not grading homework is how quickly students can receive feedback. Instead of waiting a week for me to grade a worksheet, students can check their work with the premade key immediately. #iteachchem

For some reason students like to tell themselves that "leading/trailing zeros" are defined by their placement relative to the decimal point, even though I never say that. 🧐 The column on the right is my attempt to get ahead of that misconception. #iteachchem

I've found that framing significant digits as a *communication* tool helps students better make sense of why they matter. It also helps when we've talked about the difference between a "number" and a "quantity". #iteachchem

I stole this activity from @KatyDornbos who stole it from @AMcMahonEd Students had to fill their container with 10mL. We then compared results in the test tubes. We're talking significant digits tomorrow! #iteachchem

I think it's going to be a challenge to teach 25-32 kids per chemistry section. I haven't done this in 4 years and I feel like I won't be able to give each student the attention they need 😣

"Science is science regardless of your beliefs" doesn't work in reality. Unless a class never addresses ?'s like those below there is no such thing as 'neutral' education. What is the point of doing S? Is S the only source of truth? Can S tell us what we ought to do?
