Tribal Chief might have earned a tilt at Cambridgeshire today, but I’ll forever remember his Epsom-trained namesake winning the 1969 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot for Jock Wilson and Brian Swift. I was just 21 and he paid for my holiday with “the lads”!

So sad to hear about the death of Barry Hills. He was so brave during his 20-year battle with cancer. Many great memories - rang him up one day asking if I could pop over to do an ‘evening stables’ feature for The Life. “No problem - one instruction, bring a driver,” he replied.

Whatever Arteta claims Arsenal were only the fourth best team in this year’s Champions League - nothing more! However, at least we showed more fight in the second leg of semi. Still need a top striker, though.

Can’t beat family. Today my wife and I went to see our 7-y-o grandson play for Chelsea against West Ham. Happily, the blues won 10-7 and Zac had a terrific game and scored four goals. What a special day - even though we are all lifelong Arsenal fans!

Unusual for John Gosden to have a two-year-old runner in first half of April. Siren Suit, who is favourite for Newbury opener tomorrow, is a Churchill son of Angel’s Hideaway who won the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot. Interesting!

@geofflester @SkySportsNews That’s not very fair, Geoff. She was never a top-10 player and won the US Open without beating a top-10, just lucky in having someone else out the seeds in her half of the draw. She is still a good prospect and probably the best we have. And she took her chance when she got it

Arsenal beaten fair and square by a rejuvenated Newcastle tonight, but I made a mistake in watching game on ITV instead of Sky. The ITV commentator was awful - suffered verbal diarrhoea!

Sad to hear that George Eastham, a great inside forward for Arsenal in the 60’s, has died aged 88. Repeatedly denied a move to Arsenal by his former club, Newcastle, George took the case to court and won, a landmark which improved players freedom to move between clubs.
