Communicating the climate crisis to non-experts is difficult. Here I tried to illustrate in a simple way where we stand and where we are heading.
@giac_grassi @TerliWetter 6 tipping points will likely be crossed between 1.5 and 2 degrees: Greenland and W. Antarctic ice sheets destabilized (7 & 3 meters sea level rise), permafrost thaw, complete loss of the world’s coral reefs, etc. Are you seriously calling that manageable? science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
@giac_grassi Last year's temp rise of 1.1C above the Pre-Industrial caused Winterstorms, Coldwaves, Intense Heatwaves, Droughts, Fires and Flooding- all on a massive scale. Your illustration understates the effects that +temperature rise will have on the weather events we will face. Likely:
@giac_grassi That's an amazing infographic. Thank you for creating this. It should be shared widely so that the folks still denying the overwhelming evidence get what we are up against. If you want, I can help you create a French version...
@giac_grassi Thanks for your work, it's important but difficult to do the science justice. An arresting image but a) hitting ice is perhaps a confusing metaphor for global heating b) the impacts are more complex and less manageable than implied c) we are definitely not all in the same boat!
@giac_grassi Love it. Well done on bringing lots of complex concepts into a simple graphic here! Could you make a high resolution version available for reuse?
