i don't know how accurate these numbers are but it looks like there's a large dip in the amount of npm packages being created over the last 2 years jan 1st to nov 23rd of 2023 it went up by 1,373,402 packages but from dec 23rd, 2024 to aug 10th, 2025 it's only risen by 283,694 packages i'm guessing a large contributor to that is LLM's generating code but if you look at the trends for packages like stripe and react those have grown in downloads per day since the release date of chatgpt obviously ai isn't going to suggest you roll your own react or stripe but i found it interesting that there's an uptick in projects but a decrease in contributions to npm
