Today we released the August 2024 core update. It continues our work to improve the quality of our search results by showing more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search. developers.google.com/search/blog/20…
@googlesearchc I suppose time will tell if those poor, independent site publishers actually recover from the last round of shoddy updates you deployed.
@googlesearchc "... and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search. ..." So - basically, you're still hitting HCU sites.
@googlesearchc I’ve been waiting for it since last fall. God knows how many business were killed during that time.
What is infuriating is that you are trying to figure out what I want. But can't. I searched for a particular word (homeschool), and you showed me local results. I didn't ask for local results. Why don't you let me filter my own results with my keywords? How novel?!! I literally cannot be any more broad with my keyword than one word. This is not rocket science. Please stop with the control and censorship and allow us to get to the content we want to see! Lord have mercy. We want to see people who have actual experience doing the thing we searched on. If I want homeschool curriculum, I'm capable of adding that to my keyword string. I can add NC to my search string if I want content only from NC. I am thankful to see reddit on page 2 now instead of at the very top of the results. But still, we need better. Please stop hurting content creators by assuming you know what the person searching wants. Clearly, you don't.

@googlesearchc Dear Google, what about Forbes that made thousands of “just to perform well on search” pages? You don’t think these pages made for “best roofing contractors Dallas” to manipulate search using its domain authority? @googlesearchc @searchliaison
@googlesearchc So stealing more content and making it even less likely that people will visit the actual sites that creates it? Man, you guys are absolutely reprehensible scumbags.
@googlesearchc Ah… another unhelpful content update 😩
@googlesearchc Translation: Our SERPS are now exclusively comprised of Forbes, Reddit, Quora…. and 13 yr old TripAdvisor threads Of course, that’s what you’ll find on page 2. Page 1 is reserved for our AI engine which exclusively recommends that people consume glue. Enjoy!
@googlesearchc Will Forbes be affected? This looks like it was made for search to me. @searchliaison
@googlesearchc I remember feeling so much relief when the March update was announced, thinking I could finally stop stressing about whether the career I had built over the past 10 years would survive due to a monopoly's mishandling. Expectations are -100 this time around. Please be better.
@googlesearchc Who needs a search engine with content designed to answer your questions anyway. 🤷🏼♀️ 😂
@googlesearchc Excited to see if my site completely dies with this update 😍
@googlesearchc Can't wait for @doj to split you into multiple businesses so this bullshit will have to change. You'll have to provide actual search results that help instead of making ad income screwing us all over.
@googlesearchc You do realize there's such a thing as BOTH fulfilling search intent and writing for humans? Read the headlines: you've utterly failed at fulfilling search intent this year when you've tried to do it yourselves, so hand it back to the professionals.
@googlesearchc PLEASE DON'T DESTROY BUSINESSES. REWARD ORIGINAL CONTENT/NEWS. @searchliaison - I really hope the feedback I've shared over the past 3-4 years (especially the last few months) will be considered.
@googlesearchc So... doubling down on HCU it seems. I swear that when the DOJ breaks you apart I will party like it's July 4th.
@googlesearchc Buckle up. We're rolling out the core update today. This update is designed to eliminate the remaining 1% of your organic traffic. With 2 years of experience dismantling legitimate businesses, we will continue draining your traffic until you're left with nothing. Enjoy the ride.
@googlesearchc @iPullRank @ichbinGisele all eyes on this graph 👀
@googlesearchc I mean, when your current results are as bad they are, I feel like to could flip the switch to 2005 google and it'd be a massive improvement. Pretty low bar here.
@googlesearchc Help small publishers. Our savings have been wiped out by the latest catastrophic update!
@googlesearchc Let's all be honest: at least it can't get any worse 😅
If your most advanced AI model is not capable of differentiating one from the other, how are you doing this at scale? I ask because maybe, just maybe, while trying to accomplish something beyond your capabilities you're killing a lot of small publishers' businesses who trusted you.
@googlesearchc Please reward great websites that have great content and demote 12 year old Reddit and Quora threads that have 3 pop ups, 2 disclaimers you need to dismiss and woeful UX 👍
@googlesearchc I must report that I've had a search today that didn't put Reddit or Forbes on top - please patch that ASAP. Thank you.
@googlesearchc I’m so happy to hear this! I always make content to perform bad in search, so this update will surely give me visitors! This is the key, folks! Think 2 steps ahead! Make content that doesn’t belong to search and googs will rank it!
@googlesearchc It's diabolical to pretend you care about small publishers right now when you're taking the content they worked so hard to create and re-purposing it as your own. A hearty handshake doesn't negate a stab in the back broskis.
@googlesearchc Again, it seems to push many small sites down while boosting giants like Reddit, Quora, healthline and WebMD. Even when they barely touch the topic, they dominate the first page. As a genuine publisher, it's getting harder to be seen on Google. Anyone else feeling this squeeze?
