A5 I love the writing tasks focused on coming up w/ a pitch for something because it can be adapted to many topics and contexts. My students recently identified an environmental problem on campus & wrote a pitch for an awareness campaign to address it #langbook

A4 Meeting w/ students in small groups & peer review are good ways to integrate checks into the writing process. Our writing is always used for some sort of public audience so, even if just classmates, they need to present an effective comprehensible writing product #langbook

A3 I haven’t been under any illusion for a while that my corrective feedback will magically help students produce perfect TL writing /speaking. In our writing tasks there is a communicative context so spending time w/ students & focusing on comprehensibility works best #langbook

A2 Students can use any resources since we complete the tasks together with a lot of guidance. One thing that’s been fun is gathering data from the class on the writing topic and using the results as a resource. It helps them learn to read data & discuss it in the TL #langbook

A1: I focus on process so much more than I did a few years ago. My presentational writing tasks are broken down into manageable stages and then scaffolded up to completion, with feedback along the way so that the product isn’t the first time it’s presented #langbook

A4: An important thing for me when using #authres and especially w/ novice learners is providing a context in the form of pre-viewing/reading/& listening and talking about how it’s relevant, connects to them, and relates to current real-world topics #LangChat

A3: I tend to use #authres to frame current topics. New school year? I’ll search social media for different schools. World Cup jerseys being released? I’ll find videos of people reacting to them. Elections coming up? I’ll use voter outreach info. My fav is @pictoline #LangChat

A2: Honestly #authres provide the foundation and context for my classes. We use them to think, talk, write, discuss, and read about what is going on in TL communities, what those communities are interested in, concerned with, discussing currently, etc.#LangChat

My takeaways are that I love talking about all things language teaching and am constantly trying to update my instructional practice and also that #langbook autocorrects to #langboom on my phone so I’m going to figure out a context to use it more😀#langbook

A4: The proficiency levels provide the context for what they are able to do in the TL & helps to design something that is not too difficult that they will get frustrated and revert to the L1. Currently, though, I mostly still see grammar tenses=level of assessment😬#langbook

A3: This is probably one of the most common things I’ve heard from language teachers because the concept of total “accuracy” in the L2 is entrenched in language teaching🤷‍♀️ I would start w/ shifting focus f/ accuracy to comprehensibility #langbook
