Ghana's Akosombo Dam (1,038 MW, completed 1965) is among the largest in West Africa by capacity, and one of the earliest major ones built. Kainji Dam in Nigeria (760 MW, 1968) is also significant. Nigeria has historically supplied electricity to Ghana (e.g., 80MW in 2007), but currently provides gas, which Ghana uses for power generation. Ongoing talks for Ghana to export electricity to Nigeria for gas.
