Correction of previous, I should've taken 2 off #OverallMajority & #WorkingMajority as #MarkMenzies was part of govt majority, technically now opposition. Current #UK #HouseofCommons ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I make it an #overallmajority of 47, they have 348 seats, there are 301 other MPs, there is 1 seat vacant, basically it only adds up to 46 if they count Rochdale as opposition, vacant seats are iust that, vacant!

Though come to think of it that's counting #ScottBenton who from today is suspended as an MP, so to some extent it does depend on how majorities are counted, if he is deducted then because he is technically opposition then #OverallMajority & #WorkingMajority actually are up 1.
Assuming Rochdale isn't Cons victory then it will next go to #OverallMajority of 46, #WorkingMajority of 52 and a de facto majority of 80. #DUP might start to edge towards neutrality or even favouring #KeirStarmer if it continues to seem more likely the pendulum is shifting.
If he said that in the #HouseofCommons he'd be lying to the House, a very serious matter. In fact only party ever to have had an #overallmajority in #HouseofLords is the #ConservativeParty due it having most of the #HereditaryPeers, it was majority until the end of 20th century.

It's thought that #HaroldWilson may have requested a #GeneralElection in Summer 1975 when Labour lost their #overallmajority, but was denied the request by the Queen.
Who knows whether #AndrewBridgen of #ReclaimParty will back Cons Party in votes, seems likely on a lot of things. Cons govt have a bigger margin than #overallmajority or #workingmajority stats indicate.
If at #NextGeneralElection, Labour have same advance and Cons fall back by same amount as at #GE1929 Labour would in theory have an #overallmajority, but Labour didn't stand in a lot of seats & there was an extension in the franchise with women getting vote on same terms as men.
Think I've mixed up #OverallMajority & #WorkingMajority, Overall Majority 80 initially, now 58; Working Majority initially 88 now 64 (strangely doesn't count #DeputySpeakers as neutral even though by convention they don't vote on partisan matters, counts Speaker as neutral).
Counting #MargaretFerrier as part of opposition for #OverallMajority, but as she is currently suspended & not likely to return, not counting her for #WorkingMajority because she isn't attending commons debates or votes. Though, unlike #SinnFein she can't decide to take her seat.
Ironically, because #DavidWarburton is an Ind Cons, his going increases the govt #overallmajority abd #workingmajority because he was technically an opposition MP and because #NadineDorries is still officially a whipped Cons she technically counts towards govt majority.
I think if Cons hold that seat at the by-election then the chances of a snap #GE2024 in April after #Budget2024 will increase, if Labour win with a clear majority it will be an indicator that Labour seem likely still on course for a solid #overallmajority, maybe even landslide.
Cons Party still have a very comfortable #overallmajority and margin over Labour.
82 maj if both MPs abstain & other Cons, DUP & Ind Cons MPs able to vote vote for. They'd both lose Cons whip, #overallmajority would fall to 46, #workingmajority to 54 (53 if #PeterBone returns), likely they & other Ind Cons will mostly vote with Govt. x.com/poligraham/sta…

#OverallMajority is a simple Cons Party majority over all other MPs. #WorkingMajority removes #SpeakeroftheHouseofCommons & #absentee MPs. But then there are #DeputySpeakers & differing leanings of #IndependentMPs & #DUP who get counted as opposition in WM & OM.
Economy is usually a major factor, but various things have an effect and when it comes down to the campaign, the Cons Party are going to throw everything into it and there'll be a lot of #negativecampaigning, it's not a foregone conclusion that Cons won't win an #overallmajority.

At the start of the parliament, govt #overallmajority was 80, but allowing for #SpeakersOffice neutrality, #absentee #SinnFein & grumpily mostly supportive #DUP it effectively worked out as more like 103.
On paper 64 #OverallMajority, but really roughly 95 effectively.
