Really nice book from 1998, giving some (basic for today's standards) insights into the espionage activities that take place all the time underwater. If you're interested in that, you'll probably enjoy this. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Although not directly related to espionage, it's definitely impressive what CT intel experts can put together without access to nation-state intel gathering capabilities. Thanks @TransatlanticIC @cyberpionier @TPASarah for releasing your research. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Not what we expected from the title, it's more of a self-improvement book rather than a tradecraft one... Although some of its content applies to HUMINT-ers. In any case, it's worth reading :) #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
In 2015 French journalist A. Jordanov published this book about Al Qaeda member Mohammed Merah. Unfortunately, it's only available in French. The amount of detail (including information from/for the, then, French domestic spy agency - DCRI) is impressive. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
In 2024 the British Conflict Research Group published this (first publicly available) translation of the 1970 KGB "Comms with Agents" manual. A small typo in the intro ("FSB" instead of "SVR") made us question its quality, but we're wrong. It's really good. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
This small little book from 2024 by former US Navy spy Marco Aletto is what we'd call... A gentle introduction to HUMINT. It gives some practical examples of HUMINT tradecraft and how people can apply them to their everyday life. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
This 2023 book isn't necessarily espionage-focused, but it's written by @mikeaglover1, who also served in CIA's GRS. The Situational Awareness chapter is definitely related to our content. Overall, it's a really nice and easy to follow book. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Despite being from 2015 @ISSTrainingLtd's "Covert Imagery: Photography & Video" is one of the best resources you can find on the subject. Really high quality publication covering both an intro to photography and several topics for covert photography in different env. #SpyLibrary
Impressive work by frm CIA officers @TPASarah and D Benton. "Benghazi: Know Thy Enemy" is not like any other book we've shared.First parts are profiles of dozens of terrorists involved in the 2012 Benghazi attacks, followed by factual details of the incident #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Another highly entertaining book from two true experts of the US espionage world, @100deadlyskills and Keith Melton. It was published in April 2024 and although not explicitly espionage-focused, it has some interesting tips and tricks from this domain too. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Really insightful book from 2009 (part of a bigger series) for Camp X (the secret Special Training School No. 103 in Canada). Highly recommended if you're researching WWII espionage and covert operations. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
A recently published (May 2024) book from (very likely) former ISA/TFO/FOG/etc. operators (Sh. & Joe Kent). Note that the book is dedicated Shannon Kent's story, not ISA/TFO/FOG/etc explicitly. Nevertheless, it provides a glimpse into the modern spy world. #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Very insightful book from 2007 (unfortunately only in Greek) from the former EYP handler of Abdullah Öcalan, founding member of PKK covering the events in detail. Its title is "Παράδοση Οτζαλάν: Η Ώρα της Αλήθειας" (Surrendering Öcalan: The Moment of Truth) #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Earlier in 2024 a former operative of JSOC's elite spy unit published this book. It's a must-read for anyone interested in #espionage since there are very few known details about the Intelligence Support Activity (aka #ISA, #FOG, #OMS, #SAA, TF Orange, etc) #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Excellent 2023 book from the first Black Arab-Canadian Muslim intel officer of #CSIS, @HudaMukbil. It's quite rare getting a glimpse into lesser known agencies (like CSIS) and Huda shares a lot of valuable insights, and lessons learned. #Espionage #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary #Canada
Excellent book from 2013 for anyone interested in western #SIGINT history by Peter Matthews, who had first-hand experience and second-hand reports from other SIGINTers to write this book. #OSINTChallenge: Where was this photo taken? #Espionage #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Really nice book on Russia's #GRU unit 74455 (and others) by @a_greenberg. #OSINTChallenge: Can you find where this photo was taken? #Espionage #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Very interesting book from 2016 on some of the #CIA's counterterrorism activities, written by Douglas Laux who was a Case Officer (2006-13) and then a #JSOC contractor (2013-16). #OSINTChallenge: Can you find out where this photo was taken? #Espionage #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
Despite this being a book from 2011, it's an excellent resource for anyone interested in #GCHQ (and the wider #SIGINT) history. Also, another #OSINTChallenge for you... Where was that photo taken? #Espionage #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
"Spycraft Secrets" is a nice and small book from 2016 for those who want to get familiar with spy lingo and basic tradecraft along with some historical context. Who can find out where this photo was taken? #OSINTChallenge #Espionage #SpyBooks #SpyLibrary
