This is such a marvel of engineering. I remember when I first started learning about evolution, in my 30s, because the Christian school I went to didn't teach anything about evolution; the complexity just blew me away. I did struggle, though, with the idea of all of this happening by random chance, given the combinatorial explosion of possibilities if this all came about by random chance. But once I arrived at the view that everything is taking place "inside the mind of God", and understood better the idea of the realm of the forms, morphic resonance, etc, suddenly it became easier to see how all of the designs for things already exist somewhere in an etheral plane, i.e, Akashic records. And it's simply a matter of the logic of the game engine with its initial conditions working itself out over time to "download" these patterns and make them a reality. I know that's not how most biologists would talk about it, but it's just what makes the most sense to me. It also makes me believe that the purpose of evolution is, as Stephen Wolfram might say, "mine the space of computational irreducibility" and discover these already existing structures. Which to me suggests a telos, a goal for where life in the universe is heading. An omega point, if you will, or as Terrance McKenna suggested, a strange attractor at the end of history that is drawing us towards it. Fascinating stuff. What do you believe the origin of all of these staggeringly complex structures and processes is, and where we might be heading?
