@rmathematicus @JeffreyKotyk There seems good evidence that the Abbasids first heard about the Globe from India rather than from the Greeks directly when al-Fazari translated an Indian treatise in c. 771. The knowledge stuck, but in China it wasn't adopted.

@DrJamesHannam Indian astronomy was explicit about a spherical earth. The mathematics are all based on a spherical earth. See Sūrya-siddhānta: "A collection of manifold jewels, a mountain of gold, is Meru, passing through the middle of the earth-globe, and protruding on either side."

조선 사회는 상당히 늦은 시점까지 "원반형 지구" 이론이 대중적이었던 것으로 보이는데, 원반형(쟁반형) 지구는 기본적으로 물이 낭떠러지 밖으로 흘러나가면 안 되기 때문에 테두리가 산맥이나 장벽으로 둘러싸여있는 형태를 띠게 된다. 그런데 천하도를 보면 테두리 밖에도 물이 있고...🤔

이건 의심스럽습니다. yoga는 멍에라는 뜻도 있지만, 그 어근인 yuj- 및 그 어원인 인구조어 *yewg-는 매다, 묶다, 결합하다, 연결하다 등을 뜻합니다. 또한 ‘연결’로서의 요가는 이미 고대부터 철학적인 용어로 사용되었기 때문에, 요가의 개념 자체가 멍에 -> 수행으로 바뀌었다고 보긴 어렵습니다.
