The Tibet Autonomous Region is twice the size of Texas, but if everyone there were placed in a single city, it would only be 36th largest in China. Historical Tibet is larger, though, and the Chinese government has been undercounting ethnic Tibetans for many years.

China's population dropped by 850K to 1.41B in 2022, the first such fall since a famine in 1961. The population dipped again by 2M+ last year. If trends continue, the population will be under 800M by 2100. Most of this results from the one-child policy adopted in the 1970s.

It's been self-evident for many years that George Lucas massively ripped off Frank Herbert's Dune. I didn't know that: A) Herbert wanted to settle it all with Lucas treating them both to lunch. B) Herbert died in 1986 lunchless. C) Lucas has still never admitted to reading Dune.
