President of Student's Union in Lancaster, "I have students coming in saying they can't study because they haven't eaten in three days" Fiona Bruce, "People are telling you they haven't eaten in three days?" President, "I have hundreds of stories.. We have a food bank on campus.. We have a supper club where we give our free meals to over 100 students every Thursday... The only hot meal they'll have that week" "Students are the future of the economy.. If we can't eat, we can't study, if we can't afford our rent we can't live here.. The government does not prioritise students and it hasn't in the last decade" #BBCQT @LancasterSU @CerysEvans
@implausibleblog I’m coming up to 45. This is by far the worst state the country has been in in my lifetime. I don’t see it getting any better soon.
I’ve come across Young people sleeping in park benches, and some who have stolen sandwiches from Greggs or Tesco because they haven’t eaten for days and either don’t know where to go for help or too embarrassed to ask for help. Tories have destroyed as much of our community as they can and @UKLabour aren’t offering anything better.
@implausibleblog FB can barely believe that there are students who haven’t eaten in 3 days - why can’t she believe it? Cos like Sunak, she’s so far removed from it, she thinks everyone lives like her
@implausibleblog Terrible as it may be, I have to correct her on one crucial point - students are not the future of the economy. Especially not those who study nonsense degrees. We need workers, farmers, technicians etc. Not yet another “Office Manager”.
I saw this and wept. Ok, as a student I lived off tinned food but this takes student poverty to new lows. We are the 6th biggest economy and we have collapsed in providing the basics to the people. Britain is a great nation full of passionate, hard working, creative people. From the NHS, to steam trains, to telephones, to the Internet itself, we have achieved and contributed so much and there’s more to come. I see it every day. But students having one meal a week…? A disgrace. How did we get here…?
@implausibleblog Fiona Bruce’s reaction to this is priceless “Really? There are…poor people!” Apart from the raging bias, this woman is so out of touch with normal people’s experience how can she cover current affairs? She should stick to antiques.
Sadly this is where you get to with Blairite credentialism and a unbendable funding model and university culture. If we had only 10-20% go to a brick uni and a proper further education plus decent distance learning like I am on (Open University) then there could be the funds. But the charging/funding model is broken when Oxford charges as much as a former Poly for a degree in Coronation St studies. Oh and also Government should ask employers to bring back proper in job training and sandwich courses
@implausibleblog How can any Tory listen to this and not hang their head in shame
@implausibleblog Bro, she’s never gone three minutes without a snack.
@implausibleblog Ask her to check that on her iPhone?
@implausibleblog What a dire state we’ve got the country into. Because people have been convinced for YEARS to vote against their best interests by a right wing mafia of politicians and press barons. It culminated in Brexit and the scales are starting to drop from people’s eyes.
@implausibleblog I worked 3 jobs at university just to keep going. I was in London & it was a while ago but fair to say I spent more time trying to keep myself than I did studying. I am appalled that this generation of students has to endure these hardships while the Tories raid national coffers.
@implausibleblog Tory Britain. 🙁 9 months max and counting.
@implausibleblog I know a medical student who had to win a prize so that they could carry on in year 4. I also know a medical student worked so hard as a care assistant to afford food they had to drop back a year and the university / friends stepped in.
@implausibleblog But hey, you have blue passports and pints of wine. So every cloud and all that.
@implausibleblog Just going to out it out there... they are lying.. of course they have eaten..
@implausibleblog This Govt doesn’t care about students, that’s been obvious for yrs. They don’t care about anyone but themselves. “Taking back control”is about them taking back our rights, and that goes for everyone
@implausibleblog My g-daughter is a medical student and does 4 pub shifts a week to stay out of overdraft. Accommodation is really expensive.
@implausibleblog They have been prioritising students! Just not ones from this country. 600k were given visa last year.
@implausibleblog Just another lefty liar attacking the government.
@implausibleblog I hope the Student's Union is getting Student's to register to vote!!!
@implausibleblog An articulate young woman. 👏👏👏
@implausibleblog not surprised costs a fortune to go to uni. student accomodation, basically a bedsit, costs over £8000 a year On top of that food and other expenses must add at least £5000 . Thats £13,000 just to start. How can any parent on the average house hold income of £35k support £13000?
@implausibleblog So they’ve pissed away their student loans then. 😂
@implausibleblog The money they have is spent on Alcohol, Weed, Dr Martens & Days out protesting, they are the reasons for being hungry 😋
@implausibleblog the fact that fiona bruce is shocked by this tells you everything!
@implausibleblog @BBCNewsnight @BBCNews is just @UKLabour propaganda channel and @Ofcom should STOP this …
@implausibleblog But none of these young people have an issue with mass immigration ? Ps she looks well fed.
@implausibleblog Another example of #BrokenBritain
@implausibleblog this is absolutely horrific but sadly true
@implausibleblog She might like to share her food with her student friends. She clearly has plenty. WALOB.
@implausibleblog My eldest went to Leeds. He used the Olio app to get food. He works 2 jobs outside his studies. My other son stayed at home instead of moving away for uni. He did a lots of maths & came to the conclusion he couldn’t afford to move away. Oh & neither of them drink.
@implausibleblog #ToryBrokenBritain If you still support the party responsible for this, you need to take a long hard look at yourself.
