@implausibleblog @g__j Completely agree, there should be many more experts on #BBCQT who can explain things in simple terms. It gets very stale seeing the same politicians and hack journalists spouting lies or talking about issues they don't fully understand.
@implausibleblog @g__j Not a great expert, dishonest in most factors and talking like a salesman. Batteries, at least, electrical ones, have shelves lives as short as 2 years before they've lost half their capacity. That's because cheap solutions do not make for long term solutions.
@implausibleblog @g__j Until they blow up. Or need to be disposed of. Don’t forget the cobalt is sometimes being mined in unregulated mines by 12 year old boys. I’ll keep my petrol car thank you
@implausibleblog @g__j No mention of battery depletion. The battery will last between 70,000 and 100,000 miles before it is running at 70%
@implausibleblog @g__j You cannot underestimate the damage @JeremyClarkson did on Top Gear telling people batteries will be in landfill in 3 years! 99% will outlast the car (mine is 10yr old and still over 80%) and then 90+% is recycled / re-used.
@implausibleblog @g__j Electric vehicle batteries last up to 600,000 miles…. Best tell that to all the electric car owners who’s car batteries are goosed at a lot less than that,..
@implausibleblog @g__j How long before people wake up to the fact that EV batteries are >98% recyclable and will outlast the vehicle they are fitted to? It's crazy listening to the ignorance, week in, week out.
@implausibleblog @g__j EV batteries are a long term asset just like a mobile phone is a long term asset.
@implausibleblog @g__j He doesn't tell the truth. The full cost of electricity is much less with hydrocarbons. The levelised cost of electricity promoted by INRENA & GB energy inivolves contorted conceptual and arithmetrical gymnastics. We need 7 nuclear power stations to transfer our transport to EVs.
@implausibleblog @g__j I thought Greg Jackson @g__j was knowledgeable & convincing. Dispelled the nonsense & misunderstandings of others. It’s unusual for #bbcqt to showcase informed voices to do just that. I’ll watch again with my older grandchildren, give him a follow & swap to Octopus. I feel hope.
@implausibleblog @g__j Wonderful to see someone explain clearly the benefits. People like @g__j need a lot more exposure on our media 👏👏👏
@implausibleblog @g__j I don’t get the negativity around electric vehicles. The cost is a stumbling block but what car these days is cheap to buy? IMO EVs are a win-win for us here in the UK & for our environment.
@implausibleblog @g__j Not exactly independent information is it? If green energy is cheaper than fossil fuel then why has the price of energy gone at the same time as wind and solar has taken off. Surely they would be coming down
@implausibleblog @g__j Popular youtuber with a Porsche Taycan having battery replaced on a recall. Cost of battery £40k. 600k miles on original battery pack is not a thing. EV’s have fastest depreciation of any vehicle. EV vehicle manufacturers are scaling back production. Toyota going with hydrogen.
@implausibleblog @g__j So the reasoning is the spent battery can be used in the home. However since the battery is the most expensive item, you would need to buy another to resell the car or try and sell the car with the spent battery, no such issues with a petrol car.
@implausibleblog @g__j The cost of replacing said battery... Cost of a new car...so we will be left with thousands of cars with dead batteries. Batteries are also affected by temperature meaning their range and life will vary. This isn't the future, and not been thought through.
@implausibleblog @g__j “A permanent asset”? No battery is 100% renewable so this is what’s called a lie.
@implausibleblog @Davea100 @g__j Macmaster on UTube will beg to differ Greg. Very interesting to hear from a EV owner. He can’t give his away, definitely not getting one looking at his problems and that of most I know that own one.
@implausibleblog @g__j Because you never have to dispose of old batteries and their poisonous materials? They never catch fire automatically when in contact with air? (That's what surrounds us BTW) I could list more but I'm still debating whether you're joking or not...?
@implausibleblog @g__j lol where do the materials for batteries come from, and how are they disposed?
@implausibleblog @g__j I'm 45k miles in, no loss in range yet. electric cars are great if you have your own driveway and you can lease through a business. expensive for everyone else
@implausibleblog @g__j In the real world! Manufactures put 7 or 8 year warranty on EV batteries or 100k miles whichever comes first!! Cost of replacing between £5 - £15k depending on model and make😡 Deprecation on 2nd hand Ev cars is something to look at in the coming months, Years
@implausibleblog @g__j Just Google where the cobalt comes from. Comes from the mines of the Congo. Mined by slaves, to make them cheaper. Rather than paying men in the North Sea to pull out energy let’s use slaves. Great idea! Come on the green revolution.
@implausibleblog @g__j Ok Mr Jackson.. How many kids have died in the cobalt mines so far? What happenes when said battery's life comes to an end? ( it goes in landfill)
@implausibleblog @g__j Expert on grift? Is that what you meant to say?
@implausibleblog @g__j Horse shit on the 600k life that's for sure More expensive Not practical for most Not green Limited resources for minerals Fully remote controllable Electricity prices are soaring These are not the future
@implausibleblog @g__j Fudge the issue how do you get minerals for battery's eh 🤔
@implausibleblog It's a shame Greg undermined the technical credibility of his message, with glaring false equivalence: You can't recycle electricity, any more than you can fossil fuels, but you can recycle a fuel tank - the actual equivalent of a battery.
@implausibleblog @g__j The issue around electric cars are twofold: 1. There’s no real national infrastructure to recharging them and recharging them away from home becomes a false economy - it can become more expensive than petrol. 2. The right to repair. It’s just a solution to city commutes.
@implausibleblog @g__j You talking about the multi millionaire Greg Jackson, all these advocates for renewable energy are only interested in what’s in it for them,we the bill payers are seeing no advantage in green energy production.
@implausibleblog @g__j "Cheap to run" can't continue though, can it? Road pricing must be introduced once EVs are the majority.
@implausibleblog @g__j How does this clown think a car, and I mean EV or ICE functions without fossil fuels. He seems to forget that all cars need hydraulic fluid and lubrication such as grease for wheel bearings.?
@implausibleblog @g__j The batteries will lose performance over time so not really last that long and are mined by modern day slaves.
@implausibleblog @g__j Car batteries produced in tandem by African slave child labour and the Chinese who extort and benefit off their suffering. Sold to suckers in the West wanting to score points on their eco bingo card.
@implausibleblog @g__j A group of friends just burned to death alive in a Tesla... they are not safe
