NEW: FEMA has paused $2.8 billion in disaster recovery spending as the agency runs out of money. This funding freeze has left communities across the country in limbo as they wait on federal help to rebuild after floods and fires. grist.org/article/fema-d…
UPDATE: The funding bill passed by Congress tonight will send $16 bil to refill FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund, which should be enough for the agency to resume funding all recovery projects. This funding will remain accessible even if govt shuts down in November when bill runs out
@jake_bittle @tamisawyer Another casualty of the GOP meltdown. #Disasterrelief
@jake_bittle @Phil_Lewis_ Please don't bury the lede. This is exactly why House GOP is pushing for a shutdown.
@jake_bittle @abughazalehkat More and harsher natural disasters every year, a no-end-in-sight pandemic, and FEMA's out of money. What could possibly go wrong?
@jake_bittle Not (much of) a complaint but a large playground near me that was damaged in 2021 by Ida remains shut down because it is supposed to get FEMA funds to repair it. Just an example of how many things are demanding money as disaster damages escalate with no slowdown in sight.
@jake_bittle @Phil_Lewis_ Thank Kevin & his merry antiDemocracy followers
@jake_bittle Stop sending billions to Ukraine and spending billions on illegals flooding our country
@jake_bittle @abughazalehkat If your house is underwater and you don't have any money you can thank a Republican
@jake_bittle i love how FEMA somehow has a limited budget lol
