#VintageMen Homecoming - a fine romance 🩷
#VintageFashion George Hoyningen-Huene, born on this date in 1900, was a leading fashion photographer in the 20s and 30s. Known as The Innovator, he shot first in Paris for French Vogue, then in New York for Harper's Bazaar.
George Hoyningen-Huene (b. 4 Sep 1900) was one of the premier fashion photographers of the 20s & 30s. After moving to Hollywood, he became a portraitist and film color consultant for his friend George Cukor. His romantic relationship with Horst P Horst helped define his aesthetic

George Maharis (b. 1 Sep 1928) was an actor and singer best known for portraying Buz Murdock in the first three seasons of the TV series Route 66 (1960 – 1963). A closeted gay man, he was unfortunately outed by his arrests in 1967 and 1974 for cruising men’s bathrooms for sex.
Produced by Chic for Diana Ross and released on August 22, 1980, “I’m Coming Out” quickly climbed the charts and became a lasting anthem for the LGBT community.

Edward Carpenter (b. 29 Aug 1844) was an English writer and activist for gay rights and sexual liberation. He influenced the author D. H. Lawrence, and his long-term relationship with George Merrill (a working-class man 22 years his junior) inspired E. M. Forster's novel Maurice.
Thom Gunn (b. 29 Aug 1929) was an acclaimed English poet praised for his traditional and dignified form. After following his partner Mike Kitay to San Francisco in 1954, he taught writing at Stanford and adopted a looser, free-verse style with a restrained elegance of philosophy.
Fashion designer, filmmaker, and Renaissance Man, Tom Ford (b. 27 Aug 1961) launched his brand in 2005 (having previously been the creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent) and wrote and directed the films A Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016).
Christopher Isherwood (b. 26 Aug 1904) the author whose work inspired the hit Broadway musical and film, Cabaret (adapted from his collection of novellas, The Berlin Stories) and the Tom Ford film, A Single Man (adapted from his novel of the same name).
As the screenwriter Arthur Laurents stated: "We never discussed, Hitch and I, whether the characters in Rope were homosexuals, but I thought it was apparent." Released in New York on this date in 1948, Alfred Hitchcock’s “gay” psychological crime thriller, Rope.
Leonard Bernstein (b. 25 Aug 1918), one of the most talented musicians in American history, was a conductor, composer, pianist, educator, author, and humanitarian. His honors included 7 Emmys, 2 Tonys, 16 Grammys, and an Oscar nomination. See photo desc ALT
Van Johnson (b. 25 Aug 1916) was a major star at MGM during and after World War II. Originally a Broadway dancer, he achieved his breakthrough playing a rookie bomber pilot in A Guy Named Joe (1943). His prolific career spanned over 50 years, 1940 - 1992. See photo desc ALT
