Want to give a ton of credit to Alex Cobb for doing all he could to contribute this yr. Just watching his rehab outings was painful enough; can’t imagine how it felt for him. He’s a true competitor + seems like a good teammate. If this is it, congrats to Cobb on a great career

After being injured for most of '24, Carson Rucker had an aggressive assignment to Low A in '25. On 6/21, he was hitting .181/.239/.231 Since then, he's hitting .281/.355/.352 The power is still coming, but his 30.7% line drive rate ranks 5th among 1,134 qualified MiLB hitters

Outside of Troy Melton, Andrew Sears may be the most impressive MiLB SP in DET's system this season. Among all MiLB pitchers w/ at least 70 IP in '25, Sears is in the: 87th percentile in xFIP 79th % in K% 73rd % in BB% 86th % K-BB% He's also cut his BB rate by 41% from last yr

Reds OF Pablo Nunez had a 26.1 BB% + 3.8 K% this season in the DSL. Now that's some plate discipline. That equates to a 6.83 BB/K ratio, which of course ranked 1st in MILB among all qualified hitters. The next best BB/K ratios: 4.00 + 2.55, both in the DSL (1-13 were all DSL).

Izaac Pacheco's 160 wRC+ ranks 1st among all qualified hitters in High A. Great to see after a few tough years. Sometimes taller HS hitters take time to adjust to pro pitching. Another tall, LH hitting 2nd rnd pick out of HS for DET went thru similar adjustments: Parker Meadows.

Paul Sewald looked good in his 1st rehab outing: IP, 0ER, BB, K. Commanded the FB + sweeper. Sewald's pitch mix / xwOBA the past 2 yrs: '24 4seamFB: 59.8% / .325 Sweeper: 39.6% / .257 '25 4seamFB: 59.4% / .319 Sweeper: 40.6% / .275 Wonder if it will be closer to 50/50 w/ DET.

Will Vest has had quite the 3 year run. From '23-'25, 190 RPs have at least 100 IP Vest ranks 33rd in ERA (just ahead of Mason Miller) 15th in fWAR (just ahead of Andrés Muñoz) Hard to think where DET's BP would be if SEA didn't return Vest after taking him in the '20 R5 draft

Sawyer Gipson-Long has been solid for DET in '25. His best pitch has been his changeup: 20.7% usage, .236 xwOBA The 4SFB has been a little less strong so far, and 7/9 NYM starters today have + run value on 4SFBs; 2/9 have +RV on changeups. May see more changeups from SGL today
