My kids have been asking a lot of questions about the election. Among the most interesting: Why would someone feel so strongly that they'd want to shoot someone they disagree with? Why would Biden even want to stay in the race? What will it be like if either of these guys win?

I have no tattoos. I have no strong feelings for or against having tattoos. But I do know what I would get if I did get one and I'm turning 40 soon, so it seems like this should be my mid-life crisis action. Any recommendations?

I used to be afraid of when my kids get to their teenage years, but if you have time to listen and understand them, then they will still turn to their parents when they find themselves in difficult spots.

@bycourtneym The etymological influences make sight words necessary, but they are best learned through encountering them in reading. Children need to 1st learn how to read *most* words so that when they encounter strange spellings, they can put them into context. Phonics wins.

There are at least 4 or 5 ways to learn any skill or bit of knowledge. An educator should introduce 1 they think will work, then if it doesn’t, try another. If it does move on to the next challenge. The secret of Montessori is that this is built in to the spiraling curriculum.

I have 3 kids, and I could not imagine trying to get the to understand something new at the same time in the same way. Why would we ever count on an education system that tries to do this with groups of 30+ kids at the same time?

Children are very attracted to learn specific things at different stages of growth. An educator’s job is to provide the learning opportunities that match what children are attracted to at the right moment of growth. This is what Montessori does.

My 7 son set a goal of jumping on his pogo stick for 285 bounces without stopping. His previous record was 206. Not sure where the lofty goal came from… So he started bouncing and I started counting. He stopped when he hit… . . . . . . . . . . 522!
