@joshcarlosjosh And we are hiring! durin.com/careers
@joshcarlosjosh Tolkien: “In my book I invented Durin, a character who delves too greedily and too deep, as a cautionary tale.” Tech entrepreneur: “At long last we have created a company to delve more greedily and deep than ever before, inspired by the legendary delving of the character Durin.”
@joshcarlosjosh The Balrog, preparing for the next battle.
@joshcarlosjosh Durin isnt just one king. Its the name of the original dwarf, and the name was passed down to many, many folk.
@joshcarlosjosh To be fair, the heat from the dark fire that the Balrog has would probably make for killer energy generation
@joshcarlosjosh I like step 5. Step 5 is good.
@joshcarlosjosh If only there had been a palantir to foresee this coming.
@joshcarlosjosh Step 6: Each time your company goes under, found a new one so like to it in manner and appearance that it bears the same name (Durin II, Durin III, etc.).
Step 4: ‘We fought far under the living earth, where time is not counted. Ever he clutched me, and ever I hewed him, till at last he fled into dark tunnels. They were not made by Durin’s folk, Gimli son of Glóin. Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he. Now I have walked there, but I will bring no report to darken the light of day. In that despair my enemy was my only hope, and I pursued him, clutching at his heel. Thus he brought me back at last to the secret ways of Khazad-dûm: too well he knew them all. Ever up now we went, until we came to the Endless Stair.’
@joshcarlosjosh Just hire the Balrog to head up your DoD startup?
@joshcarlosjosh 4-the Balrog, being constantly engulfed in hellish flames, ends up being a clean source of thermal energy
@joshcarlosjosh I feel like someone should figure out where they're mining and go over to play some drums ominously. 😆
@joshcarlosjosh I assume mithril, since it's somehow lighter, tougher and more flexible than any other metal, is also a better conduit (it is called "Right Silver" after all) so it would be useful for both national security and energy
@joshcarlosjosh @gautham_t Step 4 is weaponize the Balrog and sell it to the DOD.
@joshcarlosjosh Tech bros with a "plan" ploughing through LOTR glossary to find namestheir pet projects is meme waiting to be made 🤦♂️. Palantir ,anduril, shadowfax and now durin. What next- celebrimbor jewellers, mithrandir - navigation app😩
@joshcarlosjosh Any recommendations for a Lunar mining company? I fee that Minas Ithil seems like asking for trouble 😅
@joshcarlosjosh Are we using the Balrog's dark flames to power steam turbines? Because, while likely not practical, that does have the bonus of being metal as hell.
@joshcarlosjosh wonder if tolkien estate has rights on the name durin, that would be a hell of a balrog to awaken
@joshcarlosjosh Step 4 is clearly to smote his ruin upon the mountainside
@joshcarlosjosh The Balrogs yearn to be mined
@joshcarlosjosh Wait until you learn about the company Anduril.
@joshcarlosjosh 4. Convince Balrog to go on a World Wide Tour Of Shadow and Flame. 🔥
@joshcarlosjosh if this somehow leads to us getting to ride dracoliches, I’m in favor
@joshcarlosjosh Anyone checked what sort of jewellery he’s rocking? 👀
@joshcarlosjosh Great, now Mithril futures are going to go through the roof
@joshcarlosjosh The other problem is the dragons.
