Many of the same mental skills that help young athletes help coaches. And, coaches who develop these skills produce better athletes.
I'd love nothing more than to see therapists and behavioral health providers get paid like the medical specialists they are. The medical system should treat mental well-being like physical well-being.
I will never charge a kid to help them get seen by coach, if i have a resource then a kid will get it. My blessing will come later in life
After basic counseling skills, the most important skills behavioral health providers can build: - Marketing: helps you communicate about what you can do - Customer success: helps you keep clients - Finance: helps you understand pricing Broader skills for a better business.

Motivation is misunderstood. Motivated athletes need to feel: - competent, - connected, and - that they have a choice. Your job as a coach is to setup the environment to provide these opportunities. You also get to enjoy watching them grow!

If you're trying to develop a young athlete, here are some places to deepen your learning: - Skill acquisition - Emotion regulation - Teaching decision-making - Self-talk - The science of play These can all make sport more fun (for everyone involved).
3 things you can do to boost your athlete's mindset today: 1. Set a goal with them and teach them how to track progress. 2. Ask them to reflect on what they've learned. 3. Spend 5 minutes practicing mindfulness. Building your mind doesn't have to be complicated.
