This is funny, but to understand why it's wrong, you have to realize that the correct generalization of the Pythagorean theorem to complex numbers is x⋅x* + y⋅y* = z⋅z*, where * is the complex conjugate. In the real numbers, this simplifies to the familiar x² + y² = z².
