Really good to get some time back at the bench today. My daughter (10yrs old) got her first coat on the Spitfire she’s building. My 109 looks more like a 109 now! Both will be brushed. My 109 was going to be an entry to the JFF109 build, but I’ve missed the boat there!

Landing gear on, along with the rear wheel, propeller & some other little fiddly bits! Had to ‘modify’ the landing gear to make them fit 😬 Leave these to dry, touch up some paint work, fit the aerial then a couple of coats of matt and this one will be done. #JFF109

Weathering done, decals touched up, matt coat applied. Next I need to attach the propeller & landing gear. However on first glance this evening it looks like the landing gear doesn’t fit 😬 Cross this bridge soon no doubt! #JFF109

So I applied a Flory Models wash to my 109. Managed to scrape off some of the fuselage insignia decal whilst removing the wash. Literally a damp cotton bud done this, and it wasn’t even one of the decals I had an issue with previously 🤦🏻‍♂️ #JFF109

So with the end in sight for my AZ Models 109E I’ve decided to start another! Airfix 109E 😬 Although I’m going to do a scheme from the AZ Models box. Plus my AZ one was 98% airbrushed the Airfix one will be 100% brushed. Couple of thin coats applied already applied. #JFF109

Picked up this yesterday. Never heard of Aoshima before neither do I have a N1K1 in the stash so it made sense. The plastic & moulding looks good, instructions ok, decals not too sure! Anyone ever built an Aoshima model? Am I late to the party?

Landing gear assembled & the propeller has been glossed & ‘decaled’. Both of which (landing gear & decals) were horrendous to do 😩 #JFF109

Decals on the underside now finished, x1 matt coat applied all over ready for weathering. Also assembled & painted the propeller & nose. #JFF109

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. These decals have almost ruined the whole build! They were very brittle and ‘filmy’. Do I try to touch up the two insignia’s with black paint or leave them? I’m going to weather this model but nothing unusual or ‘heavy’. #JFF109

Paint touched up, exhausts painted and a satin (semi gloss) applied ready for decals. I’m out tonight on the sauce so I’m not sure I’ll be in a fit state to apply the decals tomorrow 😂 #JFF109

Not going to lie, this was a tw*t to build. Canopy doesn’t fit, nose/spinner assembly doesn’t fit, decals were bad. The gloss coat I applied peeled off once I applied some Micro Set. I broke off the rear wheel 🤦🏻‍♂️ Glad it’s finished now for sure!
