Probability and Statistics are among the most frequently asked topics in Quant interviews. They’re quite difficult, but the irony is that most students think Probs and Stats are easy ( courtesy to the syllabus in 12th grade), and therefore don’t put in the effort!

Repeating for nth time:- If the covariance of two random variables is 0, it does not mean they are independent. But if they are independent, the covariance will be zero. Most confused question but often asked in Quant interviews.

dS = μSdt + σSdW This equation is Geometric Brownian Motion for evolution of stock price. The equation says that the change in stock price is governed by 1. deterministic shift 2. Random shocks. This is the underlying equation used by Black-Scholes formula too.

Banks and few others types of firm trade exotic derivatives too. To price derivatives, they mostly use three methods:- 1. Analytic ( If closed form solution exists, mostly no ) 2. Monte Carlo 3. Partial Differential Equations Master the mathematics and you are done!
